Dr. Monica Gawlik sees children as young as seven, or as soon as the first permanent (adult) molars come in, for orthodontic evaluations. During this evaluation, she will identify whether your child may benefit from Phase 1 orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontic treatment can help correct problems with the bite, eliminate harmful oral habits, improve the airway, correct excessive crowding/spacing, improve speech, and create the most aesthetic smile possible. While a straight smile is beneficial to overall health, a beautiful smile can also have a huge effect on self-esteem!

Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment

Phase 1 treatment (if necessary) is done at an earlier age and can often prevent the need for longer, more extensive treatment later on. The goal of early treatment is to correct the growth of the jaw and certain bite problems, such as underbite. Early treatment also helps to make room for permanent teeth to come in properly, eliminating the need for tooth extractions in the future.

Most children do not need Phase 1 treatment, but it is always a good idea to visit our Mississauga or Etobicoke orthodontic offices for a free consultation to see if your child could benefit.

Phase 2 treatment is done when all the permanent teeth have come in and takes longer than Phase 1 treatment. Phase 2 involves braces or clear aligners to straighten the teeth.
